Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Broadcasting has long been recognized as a powerful tool for promoting national peace, especially in multi-ethnic and diverse societies like Nigeria. In Gombe North Local Government Area, Gombe State, broadcasting, particularly through radio and television, plays a significant role in disseminating messages that promote peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and unity. The role of media in conflict resolution and peacebuilding is critical, especially in a country where ethnic, religious, and political tensions sometimes threaten national stability (Abdullahi & Ibrahim, 2023; Sule & Hassan, 2024). This study explores how broadcasting, through its various channels, contributes to national peace by examining its role in Gombe North, where the media has been used to foster dialogue, reduce tensions, and promote peaceful behavior.
